Steven Gerrard snubbed by a Southport golf club because of off-pitch antics

15th January 2016

Hillside club has snubbed footie legend Steven Gerrard because of his behaviour off the pitch.

Gerrard, 35, was rejected for membership of Hillside Golf Club in Southport, Merseyside, over fears he would “shame” its reputation.

Two months after the former Liverpool and England captain applied, The Sun released CCTV of him caught in a street bust-up in August 2013.

The LA Galaxy midfielder — known as Stevie G to fans — was nominated by ex-Reds greats Kenny Dalglish, 64, and Alan Hansen, 60.

But it was rejected last week by the membership committee.

A source said: “They’re worried he’ll damage the club’s reputation. Apparently they viewed the footage and decided he couldn’t play.”

The source added: “Kenny was fuming after Steve was blackballed. Nobody expected he’d be rejected.”
