Steve Rotheram wins second term as Mayor of Liverpool City Region

8th May 2021

Labour’s Steve Rotheram has secured a second term as Mayor of the Liverpool City Region.

Rotheram scored a decisive victory in the first round following the result of the 6 Liverpool City Region areas. Labour’s 58.2% vote share was easily over the 50% required to avoid a second round of voting.

In total, Rotheram secured just under 200,000 votes with a final total of 198,726, more than 130,000 over the nearest contender, Jade Marsden of the Conservatives.

The result means Mr Rotheram will serve a new 4-year term as Mayor of the Liverpool City Region which incorporates Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens, and Wirral.

Southport’s David Newman of the Liberal Democrats finished in fourth place with 35,049 votes, notably being beaten by the Green Party.

Mr Newman was selected after an urgent process was put in place by the Liberal Democrats following the sudden withdrawal of Cllr Andy Corkhill due to ill health.
