Staff attacked in armed robbery at Portland St McColls

Residents in Southport town centre were stunned last night after a terrifying armed robbery at their local corner shop which left a staff member with horrific injuries.

A member of staff at the Portland Street McColl’s shop was brutally slashed in the face during the horrendous knifepoint robbery which occurred last night.

Police and paramedics were called to the store at around 9.45pm yesterday evening and two men have since been arrested.

Both have been detained on suspicion of robbery, s18 wounding and possession of an offensive weapon and remain in custody today.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “Officers were called to the McColl’s store on Portland Street at 9.45pm.

“A 33 year-old man of no fixed abode and a 28 year-old man from the Southport area have been arrested.

“Both are currently in custody where they will be questioned by detectives.”
