Forget eye-tests, the team at Conlons Opticians has tested themselves with a charity walk that raised funds for North West Cancer Research (NWCR).
To mark the opticians 130th anniversary, the team made up of employees from the seventeen branches, located in the North West including Formby (near Southport), embarked upon a seven mile sponsored walk and raised in excess of £5,500.
On Saturday 16th September the Conlons group began their challenge by camping near Hawkshead. Then at 11am the following morning the group started their walk, which finished at Tarn Hows in the Lake District National Park later that day.
John Welsby, Managing Director of Conlons Opticians said: “We wanted to mark our momentous year with a challenge and support a local charity so for every pound raised Conlons Opticians has matched the sponsorship. NWCR funds vital research projects to help us understand cancer so we are thrilled to have raised in excess of £5,500 and hope it will make a real difference.”
Anne Jackson, Chief Executive of NWCR said: “Without fundraising efforts like this the charity would not be able to thrive and support the projects we do. Given the local incidence of cancer it is critical that that the North West remains at the forefront of cancer research. I cannot thank the team at Conlons Opticians enough for their support.”
North West Cancer Research Incorporating Clatterbridge Cancer Research is made up of a merger between North West Cancer Research Fund and Clatterbridge Cancer Research. The charity aims to find a better understanding of cancer. NWCR prides itself on only backing the very highest standard of research, ensuring the best value for all donations.
