Southport’s ‘Rubbish Friends’ will be out tomorrow tackling the issue of litter under the Pier

By On The Spot News15th April 2016

Rubbish Friends are out again tomorrow Saturday 16th April. This time the team of volunteers will be tackling the  issue of litter under the Pier.

As “Rubbish Friends” organiser Pat Keith explains “This area is always a problem for litter especially from the users of the skatepark so we try to give it a good clean up before the grass grows too high”.

The volunteer group “Rubbish Friends” have been actively cleaning up grot spots from across Southport since 2012. As co-founder Pat Keith explains “We need to take pride in our town and if that involves donning gloves and “High-Vis” jackets to clean up then that’s what we will do. Southport is a
fantastic town and we all have a responsibility to do our bit”.

Councillor Sue McGuire co-founder of the group added “This is our annual “Under the Pier” show and as always the more the merrier with new friends always welcome.”

The litter pick will run from 10:30am until 12:00 – meeting by the Miniature Railway ticket office by the roundabout into Ocean Plaza.

Litter pickers, bags and gloves will be provided.
