Rubbish Friends out in force

Southport’s intrepid Rubbish friends dodged the showers and picked up 35 bags of litter around the Kew roundabout area.

“Although we got a good soaking for our efforts there’s a great feeling of satisfaction in getting a job well done.” Said Kew Ward Councillor, Fred Weavers:

“This area is one of the main gateways into Southport and when people throw their litter about it gets trapped in the undergrowth and looks very unsightly.” In an hour and a half we filled 35 bags of litter as well as picking up other ancillary dumped items. So this gives an idea of the extent of the scale of the problem.”

“Lorraine Cookson, a founder member of the litter group added: “We have a lovely town and we can’t stand round and allow it to be defaced with litter.” I would encourage people to come along and volunteer for Rubbish Friends it’s a great way to keep fit, make friends and clean up the town ……….a winning formula”
