Southport’s RARE black swan rushed to vets on brink of death

1st October 2020

The rare black swan which has delighted ornithologists, tourists and residents alike on Southport’s Marine Lake has been saved from the brink of death, OTS can confirm.

An urgent appeal for donations was launched by Southport Swan Rescue after the incredibly rare swan, which is all but completely black, was rushed to a veterinary requiring urgent treatment to save its life.

Local animal activists rescued the female after she was found starving, emaciated and critically weak on the lake recently.

The swan has undergone several major and expensive treatments, costing over £150.

An appeal for funds to help pay for the swan’s vet bill was launched and surpassed its goal within 24 hours. However donations are still being requested as campaigners fear the female swan may need further treatment and surgery in the coming weeks.
