Southport’s KGV topping the league tables

King George V College is celebrating the announcement that it is top of a national league table for practical and applied learning.

Southport’s sixth form College is top of the Department for Education’s performance league tables published in January 2017. Students who have studied Advanced Level BTEC qualifications have the best results in the country.

KGV Principal Anne-Marie Francis said: ‘ We are delighted , not only are our results the best in the country , the progress students make on these courses is ahead of all other students nationwide. That’s quite a result!’

‘This type of course  is proving very popular at King George V because it gives our learners the opportunity to mix traditional academic A Level subjects with the more practical applied courses, many of which have the added benefit of a work experience placement.’

The 2017 data places KGV’s applied learning at the top of the new ‘progress’ measure and KGV is the only college in the country to achieve a score above 1.

The national accolade follows the best ever A Level results for King George V College in summer 2016. Those results saw students progressing to prestigious university destinations with twenty one former students currently studying Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science at top  universities including three now studying Medicine at Cambridge.
