Bohemian Rhapsody for the boys at the Vic!

Heat 6 of Southport’s Got Talent continued this week, producing the now to be expected high standard of local talent and ending at a really high tempo, with a win for Sam Denia age 15, and 16 year old Sean Shanahan who formed the duo ‘The Shades’ and the competition finally had it’s first male finalists.

These very confident and likable performers sang excellent covers of Dylan’s Love Sick and Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars

Also performing on the night was a new female singing duo Katherine McGregor and Hannah Lunn, David Jenkins, show favourite Sam Hopper, Lauren Ormesher and another newcomer Sam Shields from Liverpool who came close to winning, but was eventually awarded a wild Card after performing her two songs with a live guitar accompaniment from our now regular guitarist and session musician Darren McGrath

The Judges this week included well known singer BJ Franklyn, Joanne Davey Principal of Central Dance Studios, and Musician and vocal coach Saul Danson, all newcomers to our competition but who performed exemplary

The guest artists included a cheeky but amazing set from BJ to start the second half of the show and the audience loved him. The final guest spot of the night went to a Queen Tribute artist and 21 years after his death Freddie Mercury rose from the dead to perform at the Victoria. Freddie’s concert, yes it was a concert, opened with one of Queen’s best songs ‘Its A Kind of Magic and from that first song the audience enjoyed the best magic that an entertainer can provide and he had the audience spell bound as he leapt around the Victoria putting on an immense and utterly credible performance

Joey Linden of MJ Entertainment was Freddie but he was no Great Pretender he was the real thing! Early this week the SGT /Vic team promised the audience ‘We Will Rock You’ well they did just that.

The contest is being run at the Victoria pub on the promenade every Wednesday night and gets better, come down next week to see comedy, song and dance.
