Southport’s Armed Forces Day – Sunday 30th June 2019

30th March 2019

On Sunday 30th June local Veterans from SSAFA (The Armed Forces Charity) based at RAF Woodvale are preparing to hold this years Armed Forces Day event at the Town Hall (Princess Diana Memorial Gardens) in front of the Southport Town Hall.

The event will start off with a Drumhead Service at 10:00 am in the Town Hall Gardens (Princess Diana memorial Gardens) followed by a parade with a Military band starting at 10:30 am on Chapel StreetI. Taking the salute at Southport Town Hall.

It is hoped that there will be a Spitfire fly past from the BBMF, this is yet to be confirmed.

There will modern and vintage military vehicles on display in front of the Atkinson Centre and we will be joined by the Army, Air and Sea cadets & their band. There will also be vintage live music from various acts and living history groups. Meet Armed Forces personnel with their recruitment stands along with equipment that they bring to the event, including a military field kitchen serving hot food and a full size WWI Sopwith Camel Biplane.

We are also trying to get more younger veterans involved with the parade, which many just watch from the side lines, specially the younger age groups. Veterans are men and women who have left Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, young or old

All Veterans and Standard Bearers are welcome including any in wheelchairs & scooters. If you have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces regulars and reservists of all ages you can take part in the parade. No need to wear a medal or suit if you do not have any, or to be part of an ex services organisation to take part.

There will be much more which is in the planning stages.
