Looking for an alternative way to celebrate Valentine’s day this year? Southport Writers’ Circle are continuing their annual tradition of hosting a ‘Valentine’s Verses’ evening, where all are welcome to share romantic poetry and prose.

“A lot of our writers have very different ideas about what romance is all about,” says SWC Chairman, Sean Heslin. “Some of the pieces brought deeply reflect personal experiences and others are somewhat less serious about it. It is always a fun night.”

The Circle have been encouraging  people to express their feelings in print for nearly 50 years and are always looking for aspiring writers to come and offer their opinion. This year promises to be an interesting one as the group gears up for several upcoming events, including participating in the anticipated Southport Festival in May.

“We like to encourage everyone in the community and beyond to write and share amongst like-minded individuals. Everyone has the words to say what they feel, and this evening event is ideal to express love (or eye-rolling) in as many of those words as they see fit.”

The event takes place on the 14th February, 8-10pm at Parenting 2000. SWC recommends anybody interested to check www.swconline.co.uk for any updates closer to the time.
