SOUTHPORT – TV License Scam Reported
At least two incidents have been reported supposedly from TV Licensing who contacted residents stating that their TV License has expired and could not be automatically renewed as something went wrong with the payments and the bank had declined the latest Direct Debit.
They were asked to set up a new Direct Debit on line immediately. In one incident the recipient of the call was told their license would be cancelled and their details passed on to a Debt Collecting agency. In the second incident it was stated they would be fined £2000 for non- payment.
Warning These scammers are obviously trying to obtain bank account details.
