Southport trains stuck after LANDSLIDE on tracks

6th October 2020

Heavy rain has caused a landslide inches from the railway line between Southport and Burscough Bridge station.

Constant rainfall over the last 24 hours has caused part of the land next to network rail tracks in Burscough to fall away, meaning it is too dangerous to run trains along the line.

This has led to widespread cancellations between services from Southport to Wigan and vice versa.

Network Rail’s earthworks team are on site and are planning to work through the night to try and make the ground safe to resume service.

Commuters are advised to check their provider’s website ahead of travel in the morning to see if their trains are running.
