Southport to fall silent to mark Hillsborough anniversary

15th April 2021

Today thousands of offices, home workers and shoppers will be asked to fall silent at 3:06pm to mark the anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster.

Poignant tributes will be paid to the men, women and children killed in the Hillsborough tragedy as Merseyside marks the 32nd anniversary of the disaster on Thursday.

Ninety six Liverpool FC supppeters died following a terrace crush at the club’s FA Cup semi-final with Nottingham Forest in Sheffield on April 15, 1989.

Sefton Council have said their staff will pause for a minute’s silence across their buildings, while thousands of other residents and workers are encouraged to pay their respects to those who lost their lives.

Merseytravel, across their wide transport network, will also ask people to join the silence, which will be started and ended with the sound of the Mersey Ferries horn.
