A former head teacher has been jailed for 15 years for raping and indecently assaulting an under-age girl.
Malcolm Ford, 66, of Bell Street, Southport, committed the offences more than 20 years ago, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court was told.
Ford was the head of a primary school in the Tameside area at the time.
Sentencing, the judge said the victim had not felt able to come forward and make a complaint until 2012 due to Ford’s standing in the community.
The 66-year-old also admitted similar indecent assaults against two other teenage girls.
Ford, who had a 29-year teaching career, was also a former deputy-chair of the board of governors at Edge Hill College near Ormskirk – now Edge Hill University – and was on the board for 16 years until his departure in 1997.
Following sentencing on Tuesday, Det Con Jayne Mckie said: “This conviction would not have been possible without the determination of the victim, who has shown tremendous courage throughout proceedings.
“I hope that today’s outcome can help her find the strength to move on.”
