Residents across Sefton have signed up to take part in this year’s Stoptober joining thousands across the country in the mass 28-day stop smoking challenge.
Stoptober has officially started and SUPPORT – Sefton’s local stop smoking service, Sefton’s Health and Wellbeing Board and partners are reminding everyone in the borough that it’s not too late to sign up. You can sign up anytime throughout October as you are five times more likely to quit if you stop smoking for 28 days.
Cllr Paul Cummins, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Older People and Health, said: “Stoptober is a great opportunity for smokers across Sefton to quit alongside family, friends and other people taking part in the challenge.
“In Sefton 22% of adult residents currently smoke and I hope that the campaign will give them the encouragement and support they need to succeed in their 28 day quit attempt.
“Quitting is the single most important thing a person can do for their health and that of their family and friends. This year we hope more people than ever join Stoptober using the month to get advice and help and humour to quit, I’m sure this will be a very successful year.”
