Southport school hit by Coronavirus fear

25th February 2020

Panicked parents at a Southport high school have been kept in fear after they were told their children may need to isolate as a result of the Coronavirus.

Around 40 students and six members of staff at Meols Cop High School returned from a ski trip in the area most affected by the outbreak in Italy and have been told they may need to isolate themselves away from the public as a matter of urgency.

As a precaution the Merseyside school contacted Public Health England this morning to take advice, and were told travellers returning from identified areas of northern Italy should self-isolate if they display flu-like symptoms such as coughing, colds and high temperature.

The school has asked parents to be vigilant and contact the 111 NHS helpline for additional advice if they have returned from the trip and are showing flu like symptoms.
