Southport Rugby Club raise £25,000 for Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals Charity

27th July 2020

Southport Rugby Club’s fundraising for Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals Charity has now surpassed £25,000.

The club embarked on #TheEllisExpedition in honour of former club president Graham Ellis who passed away in June.

One of Graham’s final wishes during a lengthy illness was to raise money for the charity.

#TheEllisExpedition saw the club embark on a virtual trek from the club’s Waterloo Road home to the South Pole by walking, running, cycling and swimming.

The original 16,000km target was smashed in just a couple of days.

The club then set out to virtual circumnavigate the globe.

On Facebook, Southport Rugby Club said: “Southport RFC have trekked, rowed, cycled, swam, walked and ran from Southport to the South Pole, around the circumference of the Earth, and the back from the South Pole all the way back to Waterloo Road. Covering 72,000km!!”

The club is appealing for local residents to join them in one final push this Friday, where a cheque presentation to the charity will take place, along with a toast to Graham Ellis.
