Neighbourhood officers conducted an operation at various locations around Southport on Wednesday 26th November, as part of the winter period road safety campaign.
During the operation, 16 tickets were issued for excess speed on 30mph restricted roads. The highest speed a driver was stopped for was 57mph! Almost double the speed limit for the road. Drivers issued with tickets for speeding offences will result in a fine, penalty points on their licence or the offer of a driver improvement course.
In addition to speeding offences, one driver was issued a ticket for use of a mobile phone while driving, and one vehicle was seized as a result of the driver having no driving licence and no insurance. Several other drivers were stopped and given advice regarding their driving.
Similar operations to keep the roads of the town safe will continue throughout December.
