WARNING | Southport residents targeted by fraudsters

Fraud Attempt

It has been reported that an unknown person made an attempt to change the bank details and the mobile phone package of a resident by contacting the mobile phone company, asking for a change of address and an upgrade on the package. The bank and the mobile telephone company contacted the resident who had no knowledge of the attempted fraud.

HMRC Scam

A resident received a recorded message supposedly from HMRC informing the recipient that her name was on a list and there would be severe penalties for non-payment of taxes. This scam we have heard of before but on this occasion a 0151 number came up on the caller display.

WARNING Many of these calls come from abroad and the scammers are using local or a national number in a ploy to try and trick the recipient into a false sense of security into thinking the call was genuine.
