Southport residents angry with littered streets following half marathon

Piles of rubbish have been strewn across the roads of Southport town centre after runners descended on the town this morning (Sunday 2 July).

If closing the roads to traffic for three hours on a busy Sunday wasn’t bad enough for traders, residents have also voiced their fury after finding water bottles, wrappers and more strewn across the road.

Half marathon

An Albert Road resident, Amberley Simpson, sent in these photos to OTS News after she was furious to be left cleaning up after hundreds of runners.
“It’s taking the Mick,” she said.

“At least have someone following them to clean up or don’t throw away your rubbish, take your bottles with you.

“Im sure carrying a small bottle of water won’t affect your running time.

“I’d be happy not to see them back.”
