Southport pubs pull Christmas decorations after Tier 2 announcement

28th November 2020

Two of Southport’s most famous pubs are lamenting the announcement the town is only in Tier 2 status, meaning they cannot reopen this Christmas.

Both the Mason’s Arms on Anchor Street and The Guest House on Union Street had taken considerable steps to begin preparing for reopening before December 2nd, with the latter even erecting a series of festive decorations to welcome back punters.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t to be” said a social media post from the Guest House, affectionately known as ‘the Guesty’ while the Mason’s Arms rightly claimed Tier 2 is no different to the ‘old Tier 3.’

The news comes as Southport BID urge shoppers to ensure they spend as much of their christmas budget as possible in local shops and independent businesses.
