LOCAL PUB SEAL VICTORY IN REGIONAL HEAT OF  SOCCER BLITZ FOR CHILDREN’S CANCER CHARITY.
 
Football-mad employees from Sir Henry Segrave pub in Southport beat off stiff competition from other local teams at the regional heat of J D Wetherspoon national 5-a-side tournament, ‘Kick’ on 16th September.  The annual event is run by pub chain in order to raise money for CLIC Sargent,the UKs leading cancer charity for children and young people.
 
This is the eleventh year of the annual tournament,which attracted entries from more than 567 teams from J D Wetherspoon pubs across the UK. With thirteen heats across the country,the pub chain hopes to exceed the three hundred and fifty thousand pounds raised in support of the charity last year.
 
Sir Henry Segrave team will now go through to the second stage of the competition to take part in the five-a-side final at ‘Goals Wembley’ on 14th October. The overall winning team will receive the title of  ‘Kick for CLIC Sargent Champions 2012.’
 
Craig Downes Manager says, “It was a great day and we enjoyed playing te other teams! We’re looking forward to getting back on to the pitch for the final and doing our bit to support CLIC Sargent.I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the local area who came to cheer us on and helped us raise five hundred pounds to help improve the lives of young cancer patients and their families”.
 
J D Wetherspoon has supported CLIC Sargent since 2002 and has so far raised more than £6million for the charity.  It is the longest running corporate partner of the charity, which provides clinical, practical and emotional support to children and young people with cancer.
