Southport parks will lock up early as rangers fear impact of Storm Isha

21st January 2024

Botanic Gardens and Hesketh Park will close at 4pm today as park rangers fear potential safety issues as a result of Storm Isha.

The parks will be locked up at 4pm and secured by Sefton Council as people are being warned to stay away from the coast and open areas.

High winds of over 30mph are already hitting the town but the Met Office say it could reach speeds of up to 80mph by this evening.

Such high winds can cause a danger to life as well as damage to buildings, trees and power supply.

Park rangers won’t open Botanic Gardens or Hesketh Park until some time on Monday after a visual inspection.
