Southport MP can now vote for himself – AND for his predecessor!

13th December 2018

18 months after he was elected as Southport’s MP, Conservative Damien Moore can now vote for himself.  And he can also vote for his predecessor should the mood take him to do so.  For the former Fulwood councillor has set up home in the town centre area where Lib Dem Councillor Dr John Pugh, who previously served the town for 16 years as its Member of Parliament, is the next councillor due to stand for re-election. Given the tightness of local politics, particularly in the Dukes Ward between Tories and Lib Dems, Mr Moore’s single vote might potentially end up being critical.

Mr Moore contined to draw his councillor’s allowances as deputy leader of the Preston Conservatives for a year after his election as MP. When attention was drawn to his living away from his constituency, claims were made by his staff that he could get from his Fulwood home to Southport in 30 minutes which, of course, could only be achieved by helicopter or by monstrously breaching the speed limits on the local roads.
Given the present chaos in Parliament over Brexit, where very few people on either side are prepared to contemplate allowing Britain to leave the EU on Teresa May’s packet of proposals, perhaps Mr Moore might yet soon have an opportunity to add further to his income by standing for election as a Euro MP? The candidates’ nomination deadline is on April 9th 2019.
