Southport Monument turns into dumping ground for homeless gear

10th January 2019

Homeless people are using a hidden enclave of Southport war Memorial to store their belongings.

A shocked woman paying tribute to her grandfather whose name is on the memorial near to the former post office said she was shocked to see the pile of bags full of belongings.

Another person said:

“It’s turning into a terrible dumping ground for the belongings of the homeless but surely there are more useful places to leave your gear.”

The gated area is a hotspot for drinking and drug taking and is often patrolled by police.
