Southport Marathon Walk for Myeloma Charity raises £3000

Members of the West Lancs and Sefton Myeloma support group held a special fundraising marathon walk on Saturday, August 13th to raise funds for the cancer charity Myeloma UK.  26 walkers each walked one mile along Southport’s Lord Street at intervals between 10am and 1pm on Saturday.

The event was started by Dr Graeme Allan, Macmillan GP and Cancer Lead, Southport and Formby CCG. Dr Allan said `Myeloma UK is a fantastic charity and I am pleased to be able to support this local fundraising event.’

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma.  It helps myeloma patients live longer and with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development and access to new treatments, while helping patients and their families cope with everything a diagnosis brings.

A spokesperson for the group said: The group meets once a month at the Living Well Centre in Southport and is a great opportunity to meet patients, family members and carers in an informal and friendly environment and to learn more about living with myeloma  affected which is a cancer of the bone marrow.
