Southport man arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and assault

Merseyside Police can confirm a man was arrested following an incident in Southport in the early hours of today (Tuesday, 26 January 2016).

At about 2.50am officers received a report that a man had knocked on a door on Scarisbrick Avenue before pushing past the occupant, a 54-year-old man, and entering his property.

The offender then punched the victim to the face before leaving on foot.

Police attended the scene and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, assault, resisting arrest and assault of a police constable.

The 25-year-old man took ill and was taken to hospital as a precaution. He has since been discharged and taken to a police station in Merseyside to be questioned.
