Residents across Southport were treated to a stunning four hour light show overnight as major lightning storms struck across the north-west.
Earlier in the evening the Met Office had warned of thunderstorms potentially hitting over the region.
The thunder and lightning storm, which saw huge bolts of electricity shoot across the skies around Southport, lasted for over three hours
The storm slowly passed over the coastline around midnight and remained overhead until just after 4am bringing with it heavy rain as weather experts warned of potential flooding and disruption to power supplies.
