Today (Wednesday 25th July 2012) just before 11:30am Liverpool Coastguard called out Southport Lifeboat.

They requested the immediate launch of the lifeboat to help rescue a man with leg injuries in a fishing boat about two miles out to sea off Southport Pier. Lytham lifeboat was on scene and also helped in the rescue.

On arrival they found a fisherman whose foot was semi-amputated after getting it entangled in fishing net and the drive shaft propeller of the boats engine.

The fisherman was airlifted by Air Ambulance to Preston Royal at 12:47pm.

Well done to all involved in the rescue.
