Southport Lifeboat currently attending rescue in Ribble Estuary
Tonight (Friday 28th September 2012) just before 9:20pm Liverpool Coastguard called out Southport Lifeboat to assist them in a rescue after a yacht got into difficulties in the Ribble Estuary.
Southport Lifeboat has launched their life boat and a quad bike has headed towards the scene. Lytham Lifeboat is also in attendance in a joint rescue.
A number of people are on board waiting to be rescued.
Update will appear later watch this space.
RAF Valley helicopter is on scene. The yacht is stuck on a sand bank about 1 mile off Lytham.
Rescue is ongoing.
One person was rescued from the yacht by Lytham Lifeboat. Two Lytham crew members boarded the yacht but were unable to save it in the gale force winds, unfortunately it capsized. All crew members made it back to shore safe and sound. Another great job done by our volunteers.
