Southport Lib Dem candidate challenges Labour: “Debate me. Any time. Anywhere. Any issue”.
New Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate John Wright has challenged his Labour counterpart to debate with him – “Any time. Anywhere. On any issue”.
John Wright says “Labour in Southport offer nothing more than negative politics, and local people have a right to expect better. We suspect this is because Labour, unlike the Lib Dems, has no track record of doing good things in the town that they can point to”.
He goes on to say that he intends his campaign to become the town’s next MP to be “….a positive one, about policies and ideas, about things that matter to Southport people, and about which candidate has the best credentials to be the town’s MP”.
To that end he has now challenged the Labour candidate to debate with him on any of the big issues of the day: “ Let’s talk about health, education, public services, austerity, Brexit…….Let’s discuss Corbyn and Labour’s agenda for Britain. And if our Conservative MP wants to join us, all the better! Let the public decide on the substance, not the spin!”.
Mr Wright says he takes nothing for granted and has to “earn the right” to be the main challenger to the town’s sitting Conservative MP. “Empty slogans won’t cut it. I’ll be asking the people of Southport to back me based on the quality of the candidates, and our vision for Southport, and for Britain”.
