Southport is raising money for ITV’s Text Santa
As part of ITV’s annual charity appeal Text Santa there will be whole host of fundraising events up and down the country. Forget Sun, Sea and Sangria this is a case of Southport, Sea and Singing Santa’s. Southport entertainer Billy Johnson aka Bill.i.Am will host a special one off Singing Santa’s Karaoke evening on Friday 28th November 2014.
Singers are asked to don their best festive attire and take to the mic for a small donation for Text Santa. People can pay to vote for their favourite with the eventual winner being crowned Southport Singing Santa and winning a trophy. There will also be a prize for the best dressed festive outfit on the night. The event will take place at the Falstaff, King Street, Southport from 7:30pm. All customers are urged to get into the Christmas spirit and wear something fun and festive.
Billy said “I am so delighted to be given the opportunity to assist with a great cause like ITV’s Text Santa. For any serious Karaoke Singers wishing to come along I can assure them, they will be singing on a fantastic sound system, to a very appreciative crowd, in a great venue”.

Text Santa raises money and awareness for six UK-based charities in the run-up to the big night on 19th December. This year’s chosen charities are Teenage Cancer Trust, Guide Dogs, WellChild, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Alzheimer’s Society and Together for Short Lives. The other presenters joining Phillip for the three hour live show on the 19th are Christine Bleakley, Ant & Dec, Paddy McGuinness and Alesha Dixon.
The appeal has raised £15 million for charities since it started in 2011. All funds raised for Text Santa will be distributed equally between the six charities. ITV directly funds all operating costs and 100% of donations get passed to the charities as soon as it’s received. Text Santa doesn’t only raise much needed funds for the chosen charities but fosters long term relationships between them and the viewers, helping to create visibility for the charities beyond the televised appeal.
This event coincides with the launch of this year’s Text Santa appeal which see’s Phillip Schofield taking on the challenge of being on air live for a full 24 hours, starting with This Morning’s episode on Monday 1st December at 11.00am. He will finish his epic broadcasting stint at 11.00am on Tuesday 2nd December.
