Southport International Festival 2014
The fifth Southport International Festival got underway today (7th September 2014) in the Town Hall Gardens, Lord Street, Southport.
It started at 1:00pm with a procession of international flags from the former Magistrates Court at the north end of Lord Street, along Lord Street, supervised by marshalls and terminated at the Town Hall Gardens.
Participants were invited to register to join the procession to represent their nation.
Each country represented by their flag, which will be provided by the organisers, and participants are encouraged to dress in their national costume.
Music to lead the procession was provided by a local brass band and lasted around 20 minutes.
The afternoon festivities included a varied programme of entertainments and events for children and all the family, all with an international flavour.
Market Stalls were available for local businesses and organisations with an international dimension to promote their work or sell their goods and services.
