Southport residents who hire rogue waste disposers who then fly-tip the rubbish, could now be fined up to £400.

The government has brought forward legislation needed to introduce new financial penalties of up to £400 for householders who fail to ensure their waste is not fly-tipped by unauthorised waste carriers.

Residents have to be extra care- ful when employing workers who supply this type of service, because even if they appear to be legitimate, they will still incur the cost of the fine if it is fly- tipped.

It has been welcomed by national group Country Land and Business Association (CLA), but they say it doesn’t go far enough.
