John Birchall wasn’t going to let a two hip replacements stop him from enjoying his favourite pastime.
And his determination and hard work has been rewarded by Hesketh Bank Parish Council after being named winner of the allotment category in their ‘Best Kept’ competition.
John, who has owned plot 15 on the Hesketh Bank Allotments since they were first started, said:
“I spend a lot of time on my allotment, not least because it takes me twice as long to do the work following two hip replacements!”
And he added:
“I would like to thank Farringtons of Guide Road for all their support in supplying our vegetable plants.”
Now John and his wife, Carol will enjoy a free trip to the Southport Flower Show, courtesy of the parish council, who presented him with two tickets as his prize.
