Southport fitness fanatics can now enjoy the gym any time day or night.

The council have now approved plans to open Anytime Fitness gym at the Ribble Buildings on Lord Street. Brett and Lisa Ormerod will be in charge of the franchise, which is expected to gain a ton of interest in the coming weeks – becoming one of 3000 sites across the country.

Many people in Southport will recognise Brett’s name – the former Premier League footballer A forward, he made 340 appearances in the Football League, including 215 for Blackpool, for whom he is the only player to have scored in all of the top four divisions of English football.

A council report lauded the scheme saying: “It is also very accessible to public transport with a number of bus stops within easy walking distance on Lord Street served by frequent bus services giving access to both local destinations and the wider area. It is also within walking and cycling distance of Southport Railway Station.

“Whilst it is not proposed to provide any car parking as part of the proposal, there is car parking available in nearby private car parks that can be accessed from the Esplanade and Kingsway.”

The gym is expected to open in a few weeks time. Stay tuned to OTS News for more information.
