Southport firm closes after half a century of trading

A Southport firm which became the first in the country to sell industry changing fibreglass is ‘shutting down’ at the end of the month after 50 years.

Glasplies Southport, now known as Tricel Composites was the first firm in the UK to sell fibreglass materials which transformed hundreds of industries and changed the world as we know it.

Sadly however the firm based on Crowland Street industrial estate will closing its doors for the final time in two weeks to much upset.

They will be moving their Southport Distributuon Centre HQ to Leeds and Wakefield

A spokesperson for the firm said “We have sent letters to all of our customers to inform them of the relocation and continue to keep customers informed. All customer that have an account will be transferred to our Leeds depot where their deliveries will be unaffected, being packed and distributed via our own freight and carefully chosen carriers. 

Initially, all calls to Southport will be automatically forwarded to our Leeds depot for orders to be delivered. Tommy, our national roofing trainer will also be available and will remain in the area for any technical questions, via mobile or from our local supplier’s depots for any quotation or training requirements.”
