Mark Halstead Agrees Terms To Sign

Southport FC have agreed terms with 26-year-old former Shrewsbury goalkeeper Mark Halstead. Mark will officially join the club on 1st August.

After starting his career at the Blackpool FC Centre of Excellence, he went on to make 3 league appearances for the Seasiders, including an appearance from the bench against Carlo Ancelloti’s Chelsea in the Premier League.

Mark Halstead’s time at Blackpool also saw him continue his development with loan spells at Burscough, Hyde, Barrow, Kettering Town and Stockport County.

Mark Halstead moved to Shrewsbury Town in 2014, making an appearance in League Two and 18 appearances in League One. Mark also played 4 times in the FA Cup for the Shrews, along with 2 EFL Cup and 2 EFL Trophy appearances.

Alan Lewer told southportfc.net: “I’ve watched Mark Halstead a lot in the last six months. He’s a league standard goalkeeper. We’ve done unbelievably well to bring him to the club. Mark has ambitions that sit well with what we’re trying to achieve in getting the club back to where it belongs and I’m very pleased to welcome him to Southport.”
