Southport Bus driver Louis Rosenthal takes foot off pedal after 45 years
Bus driver Louis Rosenthal took his final fare on Wednesday after more than 45 years behind the wheel.
Louis has transported thousands of passengers across Southport but it’s now time for him to take his feet off the pedals and rest them up on the sofa.
The 65-year-old has spent more than half his life driving the town’s buses and has become familiar face for his regular customers.
He said: “I’ve been doing the Southport bus routes for most of my life and over the years you get to talking to people. A lot of them have said they don’t want me to leave. “I’ll miss seeing them all every day and having a chat. I won’t miss being called names by the older kids, though. It’s sad really, as the older some of the children get, they start play up.”
Louis, began with Southport Corporation as a conductor then moved up to driver.
He went through the MPTE years then onto MerseyBus with MTL then on to Arriva in 2000.
Friends and colleagues organised a surprise retirement party at Wetherspoons on Lord Street at 8:00pm.
Louis arrived on time just like he has done for the past 45 years ferrying passengers around the town.
His retirement is a loss to the local community!
Pictured below are friends, family and colleagues who will celebrate his retirement tonight with a pint or two!
