Another street in the resort in now a 20mph zone today, Wednesday 2 December.

Eastbank Street, Manchester Road, Lord Street and St Luke’s Road will all remain with 30mph limits under the proposals.

Alan Lunt, director of built environment for Sefton Council, said:

“On most residential roads in Sefton, it’s not safe or appropriate to drive at more than 20mph, because they’re narrow and lined with parked cars.

“Despite this, a small number of drivers use residential roads at inappropriate speeds without regard for road safety or respect for anyone else.”

The zones will use large 20mph signs at each entry point with smaller signs mounted on lamp posts. No new road humps will be built on any of the roads.

It is thought it will cost £250,000 to turn every residential street in the resort into a 20mph zone and £1.5million for the borough.
