Southport supporters were out numbered almost 2-1 by Grimsby Town supporters at Haig Avenue this afternoon in their opening game of the season.

The Mariners went ahead after 74 minutes when Craig Disley turned in a low cross from Aswad Thomas.

Southport’s captain Simon Grand headed in from six yards on 74 minuts making it 1-1.

Grimsby had been the more dangerous side throughout the game and Southport hung on for a point.
