Sink hole appears in town centre rat run

30th September 2020

A sink hole is set to open up on a popular town centre ‘rat run’ road.

The three foot wide hole is concaving near to a mains water pipe on Hulme Street in Southport Town Centre due to the weight of lorries and HGVs which use the road to unload goods for Lord Street shops.

The road is a popular ‘rat run’ for cars avoiding heavy Lord Street traffic while trying to get to Nevill Street.

Residents say they have contacted ward councillors about the issue and hope it is fixed before the road completely collapses.
