Shark washed up on beach in Southport

A dead shark between 4ft and 5ft long, has been found washed ashore on Birkdale beach this morning, Saturday 23 May 2020.

It was spotted by Dimitri Zeniou, who was enjoying a walk at the scenic spot.

The tope shark can be identified by the grey upper body and a white belly. It has two dorsal fins and a distinctive notched tail.

They can live up to 50 years but aren’t considered a threat to humans and no unprovoked attacks on humans have ever been recorded.
