The emergency services were called to Fairhaven Road, Churchtown, Southport, at approximately 7:00pm tonight (Saturday 21st July 2012) following an emergency call.

Three police vehicles and two ambulances arrived at the scene within minutes.

OTS News understands that one person was taken to Southport & Formby DGH.

Police are currently at the scene and police dogs are searching gardens along Preston New Road.

An update will appear later.


Merseyside Police has launched an investigation after a 26-year-old man was assaulted in Churchtown on Saturday (21 July).

Emergency services were called at about 6.30pm to Preston New Road near to the junction of Fairhaven Road to a report a 26-year-old man had been stabbed in the back.

Patrols attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment for a single stab wound to his back. The man was treated and later discharged.

The scene was cordoned off for examination, a search of the area was conducted and house-to-house enquiries were undertaken.

An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is underway.
