September Events At Formby Library

Formby Library is set to host a variety of exciting events over the coming weeks.

During the week commencing September 11, you are invited to take part in ‘The Travelling Letter Exchange’ – a touring letter writing bureau designed by artist Laura Jamieson.

Drop in to the library to sit down, write a letter and create a new archive of letters that shows what it is like to live in the north west in 2017. Everyone who writes a letter will receive a letter in return from another participant. A selection of the letters will be published in e-book in early 2018.

The bureau is a contemporary specially commissioned piece of furniture inspired by what Jane Austen could have used. The project is funded by the Arts Council England ‘Grants for the Arts’ lottery-funded programme and Time to Read.

On Tuesday, September 12, come and meet local author, David McCabe, at 2pm as he talks about his latest book, “Brendan Ashore” which is the third book in his Irish Lad series.

His books are semi-autobiographical and in this third book the lead character, Brendan moves to Liverpool finds work, goes to football matches and visits the Cavern Club. It is a humorous insight into life on Merseyside in the 1960s.

A ‘Go Mobile Online Banking Safety’ event will take place on Thursday, September 14, at 1-4pm.

The event is for anyone in need of advice on how to use online banking facilities safely. The event is being held in association with Natwest but will cater for everyone, whether you are a Natwest customer or bank elsewhere. Online safety advice is universal and all are welcome to the event.

Afternoon Tea will be provided for anybody that would like help or advice with online banking. We recommend bringing your mobile phone, tablet etc. to the event as you can then be assisted with your queries while using a device that is familiar to you.

And finally, Formby Library will host a ‘Dementia Advice Day’ on Thursday, September 21, to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day.

Ideal for those with dementia and those that care for them, come down between 10am-4pm and speak to professionals and local support groups to gain an insight into practical and emotional support available in the Formby area.
