Selworthy Road man arrested in cocaine bust

A Southport man has been arrested as one of eight people charged in a two day long drugs bust.

Suspected cocaine was also seized in the Merseyside wide raids led by a specialist police taskforce on May 6th and 7th.

Officers from the organised crime partnership – a joint investigation team comprising of Merseyside Police and National Crime Agency (NCA) officers – carried out strikes at addresses in Liverpool, Sefton and Southport.

Matrix units and forensics officers have been searching a property on Selworthy Road over the last two days following the arrests of local man Paul Lockyer, 42.

He’s one of six men arrested by police alongside two women, who were all charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

A spokesperson for the NCA said officers recovered around five kilos of the substance.

After initial testing, officers suspect the substance to be cocaine.

The NCA said a 38-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and has since been released under investigation.

Detective chief inspector Lynsay Armbruster, of the joint taskforce, said: “This operation has ensured that suspected cocaine has been removed from the streets of Merseyside.

“ Class A drugs cause significant harm to people and communities, and Merseyside Police and the NCA remain steadfast in preventing its supply.”
