A London Marathon runner from Southport says her four hour marathon time would have been much quicker… had she not stopped along the route for a selfie with royalty!

When the chance came for Kate Baggeley to grab a selfie with the future King of England, she didn’t hesitate… despite the fact she was taking part in the London Marathon at the time!

Kate seized the moment, grabbed her mobile phone and snapped a never-to-be-forgotten moment on camera.

Kate 44, was taking on the grueling 26 mile challenge in the capital last Sunday with her husband, Lance, when she spotted Prince William and Prince Harry handing out water to runners at the 10k marker.

High on adrenaline, Kate decided to stop and take a selfie with the future king who even had some wise words for her as she took the photo! Prince William told me to think about my time, jokingly, before he got in the picture with me,” Kate told our reporter.

“I was about 10k into the run and saw both princes at the marker so I thought ‘why not’ and went over to get a picture!

“Lance was more focused on the run and came in at just over three hours while my time – adjusting for royal selfies – was over four hours.”

The husband and wife team from Southport were taking part in the London Marathon to raise funds for Barnardo’s Children’s charity.

Lance, 47, and Kate, who operate ‘Lance School of Motoring’ in the town were delighted to have raised £2,200 in sponsorship so far and hope that total will rise in the coming weeks.”
