    Sefton Mayoral Installation

    By 21st May 2015

Cllr Stephen Kermode was officially installed as the new Mayor of Sefton last night (Tuesday, May 19).

Cllr Kermode and his wife Gwen will take over Mayoral duties from Cllr Kevin and Linda Cluskey who were Mayor and Mayoress during 2014/15.

He was sworn in at a special council meeting at Bootle Town Hall which was followed with a dinner at the Park Hotel near Aintree.

Cllr Kermode lives in Maghull and was elected to the Park ward in 2012. He was born in Liverpool and moved to Maghull in the early 1960s attending Northway Primary School and then Deyes Lane High School.

After attending Hugh Baird College of Further Education, Cllr Kermode worked as a joiner and then set up his own building business in 1984.

He is married to Gwen and they have two grown up children. In his spare time, Cllr Kermode likes reading, football, music of all genres, the theatre and musicals, walking his dogs and local history.

Cllr Kermode said: “I am delighted to be selected as the new Mayor of the Sefton.

“I believe the borough is a great place to live and work and look forward to representing Sefton on a local, regional and national level.

“My wife and I look forward to the many engagements we will attend during the next 12 months and would like to also thank Cllr Cluskey for his excellent Mayoral year.”

Gwen Kermode has lived in Sefton all her life and attended St Georges Primary School, Maghull, followed by Maricourt High School.

After school she worked at the Girobank for 14 years and has been a local Magistrate since 2006 serving in the Sefton area.

Outgoing Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Kevin Cluskey, added: “After such a busy 12 months it is always tinged with sadness that my Mayoral year will come to end.

“I look back on it very fondly and would like to wish Cllr Kermode all of the best in his new role as Mayor of Sefton.”
