Sefton Council highlight playing field shortage in Pitch strategy

28th January 2016

Sefton Council’ s Playing Pitch strategy has found a shortage in the number of playing fields for pitch sports in the area.

The draft strategy, which will be discussed by council at a cabinet meeting on January 4, found there was a shortfall in the quantity and quality of grass football pitches across Sefton, as well as 3G football pitches, grass cricket pitches, and rugby pitches.

According to the strategy, there are enough sand-based hockey pitches in Sefton, but some need to be improved – especially Greenbank High School’s in Birkdale.

Tennis courts were also deemed to be of a too low quality, and there are “some isolated areas” where additional tennis courts could be opened to meet future demand, e.g. at Blundellsands Lawn Tennis Club.

The strategy is still in draft form, and comments on the full strategy, which is available on the Sefton Council website, are welcomed.
